Conformance Statement

All pages on this site comply with priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

How the Site is Built for Accessibility

This Web site uses structured semantic markup, implemented using cascading style sheets (CSS) for positioning and visual layout.  If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets, the content of each page is still readable.  Tables are used to support tabular data where the use of HTML lists and CSS markup would require substantial coding to render the information in a coherent format.

This site uses relative font sizes for content, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.  Fixed width markup is used only where this does not impact adversely on accessibility of content.

Navigation aids

All pages have access a site map and home links to aid navigation in text-only browsers.  We have decided not to use tab index as links are coded in a logical tabbing order. We have also decided not to use access keys because of the conflict they can cause with other software programs.

Links and images

Many links have title attributes that describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article), and links which take the user offsite contain a message alerting of this fact.  All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes.  Decorative graphics include a description of some sort to give the user full knowledge of the representation of this site.
